It excludes commercial catering appliances, those for special atmospheres (corrosive/explosive), and portable cooking devices (e.g., toasters, covered by IEC 60335-2-9).

The standard addresses common hazards like electric shock, burns, fire, and mechanical risks, with rigorous tests and construction rules. Key 2024 updates include clarified oven rack design/test rules, added steam oven and ship – board oven (anti – corrosion, stability) requirements, optional accessible surface temperature limits, stabilizer/labeling mandates, and spill tests for built – in undercounter ovens. It enforces strict electrical insulation, thermal control (e.g., oil cooking ≤180°C per Clause 10.2), and child – protection measures (e.g., probe – based tests for accessible parts) to ensure safe use in domestic settings.
