Environment Test Chamber : High and Low Temperature chamber Testing and Testing Standards

Table of Contents

The high and low temperature chamber is also known as environmental test chamber is a common testing equipment that simulates extreme weather environments more realistically through the cyclic changes of high temperature, low temperature, and humidity, and obtains accurate test results.

In various experiments, the high and low temperature chamber environmental test chamber has a wide range of applications, including many types of products. It is a necessary hardware experimental equipment for simulating environmental adaptability tests of products under various environmental temperatures. Used to test the quality of mobile phones, plastic products, metals, food, chemistry, building materials, medical, aerospace and other products, it can be said that our lives are closely related to them.

For example, the mobile phone we use in our daily lives, as a fast response electronic product, requires very sensitive electronic components to make quick responses. At this point, the high and low temperature test chamber requires strict screening of electronic components. Although strict screening may initially result in a loss of some costs, due to the strict requirements for temperature and humidity in electronic components, once temperature and humidity change and do not meet the requirements, the service life of electronic components will gradually decrease.

The principle of a high and low temperature chamber:
The heating process of the high and low temperature chamber is to generate heat after the wires in the heating system are electrified, and then transmit the heat generated by the air circulation system to the working room through circulating air to achieve the heating purpose. Due to its fast heating speed and high heat output, it has been widely used. Some users usually have high requirements for heating rate and high temperature range. According to this principle, it is possible to add wires and adjust the control system accordingly to meet this requirement.

Secondly, cooling is the core equipment of this process, which is a compressor. The compressor compresses low-temperature and low-pressure gases into high-temperature and high-pressure gases, which are converted into liquids through the condenser. The evaporator evaporates these liquids, enters low-temperature and low-pressure gases, and enters the compressor. Therefore, continuous circulation absorbs a large amount of heat, and finally completes cooling. The heat generated by the compressor operation is carried away by the fan. Energy control devices are often added to equipment to control cooling energy and energy consumption, in order to achieve the goal of minimum energy consumption and maximum temperature, and reduce costs.

In addition to refrigeration and heating, the equipment should also be equipped with a humidity control system, humidification or dehumidification to meet the necessary humidity during the working process.

The high and low temperature chamber can mainly carry out the following project tests:
1. High temperature test
Test purpose: To evaluate the adaptability of test samples to storage or use under high temperature conditions. Instruments and equipment used in high-temperature environments such as tropical weather or steel mills.

High and low temperature chamber testing standards:
GB_ T 2423.2-2008 Environmental Testing for Electrical and Electronic Products – Part 2: Test Methods – Test B: High Temperature
GBT 2423.1-2008 Environmental Testing for Electrical and Electronic Products – Part 2: Test Methods – Test A: Low Temperature
IEC 60068-2-2 Basic environmental testing procedures – Part 2-2: Tests – Test B: Dry heat
IEC 60068-2-1:2007 Environmental testing for electrical and electronic products: Low temperature

The impact of high and low temperatures on electronic (plastic) products:
1. High temperature may cause the product to overheat, affect the safety and reliability of use, and even damage it. For example:
a. Melt and drain the insulation or sealing grout, and melt and drain the lubricating grease, thereby causing damage to the tower
b. Changes in material properties
c. Reduced elasticity or mechanical strength of elastic components, shortening product service life
d. Accelerate the degradation and aging process of polymer materials and insulation materials, and shorten the service life of products.

2. The impact of low temperature on mechanical, electrical, and electronic products is multifaceted and varies depending on the characteristics of the product’s energy and auxiliary structure, such as:
a. Freezing the electrolyte causes the Electrolytic capacitor and battery not to work normally
b. The viscosity of lubricating oil increases, and even condenses and freezes, affecting the starting performance of the product
c. Affects the normal startup of electronic products and increases instrument error
d. Make materials brittle. For example, plastic and steel are prone to brittle damage at low temperatures, and rubber Hardness hardness increases and elasticity decreases.

The basic requirements that the product should meet after high and low temperature testing:
The product quality after high and low temperature testing is generally inspected according to the requirements specified in the product technical conditions or technical agreements. For example, the impact of high temperature environments on the performance of motor products is manifested in the increase in the resistance of conductive materials, leading to changes in current. For motors with precision requirements, it can also affect accuracy. Therefore, after the high-temperature test, the insulation resistance should be measured in the test chamber, with a value not less than 5M Ω, and other performance tests of the motor should also be conducted. In general, after temperature testing, if a product meets the following basic requirements, it is considered to meet the requirements

High and low temperature requirements.
1. The surface of the product is free from defects such as damage or deformation. If the surface is coated, there should be no peeling, blistering, or discoloration of the coating.
2. For plastic parts, there should be no cracks, bubbles, or deformation on the surface.
3. Rubber products shall be free from aging, bonding, softening, and cracking.
4. There is no flow phenomenon in the welding parts of the 4 product parts.
5. The performance data and structural functions of the product meet the technical requirements, and there should be no other defects that hinder the normal operation of the product.
