  • The ZRS-4H Automotive Interior Flame Tester is used for evaluating the flame retardancy of automotive interior materials, simulates the combustion characteristics of automotive interior materials under specific flame conditions. By precisely controlling flame height, burning time, and specimen placement angle, it measures the burning rate, flame spread, and self-extinguishing properties of the material. The ZRS-4H utilizes an integrated combustion chamber design, integrating an imported flame control module and a high-precision timing system, automatically completing the entire process from “flame application – timing – combustion state determination.” Its windproof and heat-insulating structure effectively prevents ambient airflow from interfering with test results, ensuring the accuracy and repeatability of test data.

The ZRS-4H Automotive Interior Combustion Tester supports testing of a variety of interior materials, including automotive seat fabrics, instrument panel surfaces, and interior plastics. The specimen fixing angle can be precisely adjusted to 30° (in compliance with standard requirements), and the flame height can be calibrated using a flow meter and a scale (ensuring a 20±2mm standard flame). Equipped with a high-definition observation window and combustion residue collection tank, the instrument facilitates real-time observation of the combustion process and subsequent analysis. Widely used by automotive OEMs, interior component suppliers, and third-party testing agencies, the instrument is a crucial testing tool for ensuring automotive interior safety and reducing vehicle fire risks.

    Applications:

    1. Automotive and Interior Components Industry
    • Seat System Testing: This test examines the flammability of automotive seat fabrics (such as PU leather and fabric), seat foam, and seat back plastic panels. Verification is provided that the material’s burning rate under a 15-second flame is ≤100mm/min (in compliance with GB 8410-2006 requirements), preventing seat burns from causing in-vehicle fires.
    • Instrument Panel and Interior Component Testing: This test evaluates the flame retardancy of instrument panel surfaces (PVC and TPO materials), door trim panels, and center console plastics. The test measures the flame spread and self-extinguishing time to ensure that the material self-extinguishes within 30 seconds after the flame is removed, with no persistent combustion. This ensures compliance with FMVSS 302 safety standards for automotive interiors.

    2. Automotive Interior Material Suppliers
    • Fabric and Leather Testing: Provides combustion performance testing for automotive interior fabric manufacturers (such as those producing knitted fabrics and synthetic leather), optimizes material flame-retardant coating formulations (e.g., by adding flame retardants), and ensures that the fabric’s burning rate meets the vehicle manufacturer’s technical requirements.
    • Plastic and Foam Material Testing: Tests the combustion characteristics of PP/ABS alloy plastic parts (such as air conditioning vents and cup holders) and EVA foam floor mats in vehicles to prevent the generation of toxic fumes or molten drippings during combustion, ensuring passenger safety.
    3. Rail Transit and Special Vehicles
    • Rail Transit Interior Testing: Based on BS 6853 and DIN 75200 standards, this test tests the combustion performance of seat fabrics, interior trim panels, and floor coverings for subways and high-speed trains. This verifies the flame retardancy of the materials under specific flame conditions, ensuring they meet the high safety requirements of rail transit vehicles.
    • Special Vehicle Testing: This test tests the combustion resistance of interior materials for new energy vehicles (pure electric and hybrid), ambulances, and RVs under the risk of battery thermal runaway. This ensures the materials exhibit low combustion rates and good self-extinguishing properties, mitigating fire risks in specialized scenarios.

    4. Testing and Certification
    • Third-party laboratory testing: Third-party testing organizations such as SGS, CQC, and TÜV use this equipment to provide automotive interior manufacturers with compliance test reports based on standards such as ISO 3795 and ASTM D5132, helping them obtain certifications such as the CCC, EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), and ECE (Economic Commission for Europe).
    • OEM quality inspection: OEMs (such as BYD, Tesla, and Volkswagen) use this equipment to spot-check the combustion performance of interior materials before parts enter storage. This prevents unqualified materials from entering the production line and ensures safe and compliant vehicle delivery.
