IS 15644:2006 is an Indian standard that focuses on the safety of electric toys. It applies to toys with at least one electrical function, including constructional sets, experimental sets, functional toys, and video games. The standard aims to minimize risks to people or the environment when toys are used as intended or in a foreseeable manner. Electric toys are divided into battery – operated toys, transformer toys, and dual – supply toys based on the input source.
Toys covered by this standard must meet specific requirements. They should not reach high temperatures during use, and their electrical insulation should be sufficient at both operating and room temperatures. The supply voltage must not exceed 24 V, and the components should comply with the safety requirements of the relevant IEC standard. The standard also specifies type tests for electric toys, including heating and abnormal operation tests, electrical strength tests at operating and room temperatures, moisture resistance tests, mechanical strength tests, and more. In addition, toys or their packaging must be marked with relevant information such as the name, trademark, and model.
