IEC 60730-1:2010 Automatic electrical controls for household and similar use-Part 1:General requirements

IEC 60730-1:2010 defines general safety and performance requirements for automatic electrical controls used in or with household and similar equipment, encompassing energy sources like electricity, gas, oil, solid fuel, and solar thermal energy. It applies to controls for appliances (per IEC 60335-1), building automation systems (per ISO 16484-2), independent control systems, and multi-function controls with non-electrical outputs, excluding controls specifically designed for industrial process applications unless stated otherwise. Core focus areas include inherent safety of controls, safety-related operating parameters, and validation testing of relevant devices.

The 2010 edition incorporates key updates: revised low-temperature test rules for in-line cords, adjusted pollution degree specifications for contact environments, and new tests for flexible cords. It updates heat, fire, and tracking resistance requirements (replacing Clause 21 and Annexes F/G), integrates CISPR 11 EMC requirements and IEC 60335-series EMC test levels, and adds provisions for PCB screwless terminals and non-SELV supplied sensor cables (Annex T). Additionally, it incorporates software techniques from IEC 61508-3, replaces Annex D with references to UL 746C, updates related bibliographies, and removes the keyword index to enhance compliance clarity.
