EOS Egyptian Organization for Standards & Quality

The Egyptian Organization for Standards & Quality (EOS) is Egypt’s official organization responsible for standardization activities, quality management and industrial metrology. Its goal is to improve the competitiveness of Egyptian products in international and regional markets, protect consumers and protect environment.

In 1957, according to Presidential Decree No. 29/1957, it was decided to establish the “Egyptian Organization for Standardization (EOS)”. In the same year, EOS joined the ISO organization and became a member of the ISO organization.

In 1979, according to Presidential Decree No. 392/1979, the Quality Control Center was established and joined EOS. At this point, the full name of EOS was changed to Egyptian Organization for Standardization & Quality Control.

In 2005, according to Presidential Decree No. 83/2005, the full name of EOS was changed to Egyptian Organization for Standards & Quality.

Since Egypt signed the WTO accession agreement in 1995, EOS has become the TBT notification consultation point for Egyptian standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment.

EOS has five main committees: EOS/CODEX Committee, EOS/COPOLCO Committee, EOS/CASCO Committee, EOS/ISO/TC 176, and EOS/ISO/TC 207.

Purpose of Egyptian Standards:
1. Increase production capacity and improve product quality in different fields;

2. Simplify and Relevant;

3. Safety, health, protection of life and environment;

4. Consumer and producer protection;

5. Communication and understanding between parties involved in commercial and industrial activities;

6. Reduce costs and save manpower, resources and energy;

7. Improve the competitiveness of Egyptian products on local and international markets;

8. Reduce trade disputes.
