I. Introduction of Salt Spray Test
Corrosion testing is widely adopted and used for quality control testing in the metal business quality assurance laboratories. The mentioned test is conducted in a salt spray test chamber. This test is performed on black metals and the alloys. Besides, this is done in the paint and coating industry to ensure the quality of the coating and thus provide long-term performance for the black metals. Corrosion phenomena could be a negligible topic, but it has many troublesome impacts on black metals. With the salty environment where human lives are filled with salt particles, these materials could accidentally react with iron and initiate oxidation reactions which converts ferrous ions into ferric oxides.

Over time, this reaction could lead to total destruction of the product. Oxidation of the material is also helpful in developing microbial reaction which could lead to complete destruction and failure of the product. To avoid such cases, the paint and coating industry is engaged in efforts to enhance their products and their coating’s durability. This happens because the coating could restrain the entry of moisture or any pollutant and lead to corrosion. Besides, low-quality coating could be removed by exposing the surface to moisture and leading to oxidation. Hence, the quality of the coating has to be tested using artificial accelerated salt spray test.
II. Judgment method of Salt Spray Test

To assess the salt spray test results, there are several methods that can be used such as: Rating Method, Appearance of Corrosion Products Method, Performance Method, Weighing Method, etc.
The rating method is suitable for evaluation of corrosion quality flat specimens; it arranges percentage salt spray corrosion area to total area of the sample in certain method and provides the qualified grade.
The appearance of corrosion products method is more commonly used in product standards and is often used for coated parts and painted parts; it is based on whether certain corrosion phenomena appears to test for qualified of the sample.
The performance method is suitable for finished products especially for electronics and electrical products; after the sample is conducted to salt spray test, it tests for performance of the sample and then judges corrosion performance of the sample whether it meets the performance requirements.
The weighing method is suitable for evaluation of metal material ; it computes the weight losing due to salt spray corrosion to judge corrosion resistance of sample.
We usually choose different criteria for evaluation according to different test requirements. Generally, evaluation criteria we depend on the test results is determined by material of the product, applicable standards or customer’s requirements.
III. Conclusion
In conclusion, salt spray test is a common method to examine corrosion resistance of the products, there are many factors that affect the stability of salt spray test results, the testers should constantly improve their professional knowledge and skills, combine with their own experience to have a comprehensive understanding of salt spray test, accurately design the experimental program according to the relevant requirements, and make a scientific description of the test results, better provide reliable data support for customers in the aspects of material, structure, process, transportation, storage and use of the product, timely find out the design defects, improve constantly and enhance the corrosion resistance of the product, so as to improve the product quality.
