IEC 61643-11:2011 Low-voltage surge protective devices— Part 11: Surge protective devices connected to low-voltage power systems–Requirements and test methods

This International Standard IEC 61643-11:2011 specifies the general requirements for low‑voltage surge protective devices (SPDs) connected to low‑voltage power distribution systems. It defines terms, classification, operating conditions, ratings, marking, and functional characteristics of SPDs intended to protect electrical equipment against transient overvoltages, establishing basic technical criteria for their design and application.

The standard also sets out corresponding test methods and performance criteria to verify the compliance of SPDs, including tests for impulse discharge capacity, voltage protection level, temporary overvoltage endurance, temperature rise, resistance to ageing, and short‑circuit withstand capability. These test procedures are applicable for type tests, routine tests, and quality assessment of SPDs used in low‑voltage power systems worldwide.
