ANSI/UL 1484:2025 (6th Edition, published April 28, 2025) is a safety standard for electrically operated fuel gas alarms used in residential settings and recreational vehicles (RVs). It covers devices designed to detect flammable gases, primarily natural gas (methane) and propane, as well as connected remote accessories. The standard excludes industrial/commercial gas detectors, units for hazardous locations (per NFPA 70), and smoke/fire detectors.
This edition updates testing and performance criteria: it lowers the minimum detection threshold to 10% LEL (lower explosive limit), requires fast response times, and mandates resistance to false alarms from cooking fumes or chemicals. A key revision is an optional 21‑day corrosion test (in addition to the existing 10‑day cycle), simplifying certification for combination CO/gas alarms by allowing a single unified test regime. It also specifies power supply/backup requirements, audible alarm levels, and environmental reliability under varying temperature and humidity.
