UL 2034:2024 is the latest US safety standard for single and multiple station interconnected carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. It sets mandatory electrical safety requirements for CO alarms, including a 1-minute dielectric voltage-withstand test for hazardous voltage circuits, with graded AC/DC test voltages and strict test procedures to prevent electric shock hazards.
The standard also specifies mechanical reliability tests. It requires non-metallic enclosure alarms to pass a 6.8N·m steel ball impact test. Commercial vehicle and portable alarms must complete five 2.1m free-fall drops on standard hard floors. After all tests, alarms shall maintain normal operation and detection sensitivity, without exposure to dangerous live parts.
