1. What is called “colorimeter” and what is called “spectrophotometer”

2. Design principle
The spectrophotometer is designed according to the principle of spectrophotometer, and the common colorimeter is designed according to the principle of tristimulus value. The spectrophotometer can simultaneously measure SCI (a measurement method including specular reflection. 3. Measuring principle
The color difference meter can automatically compare the color difference between the sample plate and the tested object, and output CIE L, a, b three groups of data and △ E, △ L, △ a, △ b four groups of color difference data after color comparison. Different from the method of color measurement with a simple colorimeter, the spectrophotometer can measure the “reflectivity curve” of each color point (10nm or 20nm wavelength interval), while the colorimeter cannot. The spectrophotometer can simulate multiple light sources, while the colorimeter generally has only one or two analog light sources.

4. Light source
In the color measuring instrument, the stability, light source orientation, life and the effectiveness of the obtained spectral curve should be considered first when selecting the light source. At present, LED lamp and xenon lamp are mostly used as light sources.

Xenon lamp is mainly used for ultraviolet light source measurement, which can emit short high intensity arc light, but it is difficult to produce repeated arc light of equal intensity. Moreover, the xenon lamp light source requires a relatively complex high-voltage oscillation excitation circuit, and the maintenance is also very complex. When replacing, in addition to replacing the bulb, the whole set of capacitors must be replaced, so the price is expensive. On the current standard color measuring instruments, the use of LED lamps is technically and economically appropriate. In particular, portable instruments need to be lightweight, power saving, easy to maintain and operate.
