Research on Technical Application of Dust Test Chamber for IP6X Test

Abstract
The IP6X test is the highest-level verification for enclosure dust protection performance, corresponding to the dust-tight standard. It imposes strict requirements on dust circulation, sealed temperature control and negative pressure regulation of test equipment. Taking the LISUN SC-015 dust test chamber as the research object, this paper analyzes the cooperative working mechanism of its sealed test chamber and circulating dust blowing system. It elaborates the technical path for the equipment to realize full-series dust protection tests including IP5X, IP6X, IP5KX and IP6KX. Combined with equipment parameters, standard adaptability and industry application scenarios, the practical value in product R&D verification and quality control is illustrated, providing standardized solutions for reliability testing of products under dusty working conditions.

Introduction

Outdoor electronics, auto parts, lighting equipment and new energy devices are continuously exposed to dusty environments such as mines, construction sites and road dust. Invasion of fine dust may lead to short circuits, mechanical jamming and accelerated aging of components. Therefore, standardized dust protection testing must be carried out before product launch. In accordance with GB/T 4208-2017 and IEC 60529:2013, the IP6X test represents the highest dust protection test. It requires test equipment to build a stable, uniform and recyclable suspended dust environment, equipped with a negative pressure system to simulate dust penetration conditions. Conventional simple dust testing devices suffer from dust sedimentation, uneven concentration and discontinuous circulation, resulting in poor repeatability of test results and failing to meet the judgment requirements of the IP6X test. Adopting the linkage design of sealed test chamber and circulating dust blowing system, the LISUN SC-015 dust test chamber solves problems including uneven dust distribution, high single consumption of test materials and single working condition simulation. It can fully cover four mainstream dust protection tests and becomes core equipment for compliance testing of industrial product dust resistance.

 Core Working Mechanism of LISUN SC-015 Dust Test Chamber for IP6X Test

Basic Guarantee Provided by Sealed Test Chamber
The equipment adopts a double-layer sealed structure. The outer shell is made of anti-rust paint steel plate, while the inner chamber and sample rack are stainless steel. The double-door sealing structure eliminates potential dust leakage gaps. The internal working dimension is 1000mm×1500mm×1000mm, capable of accommodating medium and large complete samples for IP6X test. The sealed chamber isolates interference from external air. Equipped with a bottom dust storage bin and built-in vibration device, it prevents talcum powder agglomeration and sedimentation, establishing a closed foundation for uniform dust suspension. A tempered glass observation window and built-in LED light are installed on the door. The dust adhesion status on samples can be observed throughout testing without opening the chamber and destroying the internal dust environment.

Dust Control Principle of Circulating Dust Blowing System
The circulating dust blowing system forms a closed loop with the sealed chamber. Fitted with an adjustable circulating pump and standard metal sieve with 50μm wire diameter, it continuously lifts dry talcum powder at a concentration of 2~4kg/m³ and drives circulation inside the chamber to eliminate local differences in dust concentration and maintain suspended dust status specified by standards during the whole test. Dust can be recycled after testing to reduce consumable costs. For the exclusive negative pressure requirement of the IP6X test, the equipment is equipped with an adjustable vacuum unit ranging from 0~10kPa with pumping speed precisely controllable from 0~4800L/H. Negative pressure can be formed inside samples as required by standards to actively induce dust penetration through sealing gaps and simulate extreme dust intrusion conditions, so as to judge whether products meet dust-tight requirements. The whole system is integrated and controlled by a 7-inch touch screen and Panasonic PLC. The temperature range is RT+10~60℃ to avoid dust agglomeration caused by humidity change and ensure stable working conditions throughout the IP6X test.

Comparison of Test Capabilities for Four Dust Protection Ratings
The table below shows differences in core working conditions of four dust protection tests conducted by LISUN SC-015 dust test chamber, reflecting the strictness of the IP6X test compared with other ratings:

Protection Rating Core Test Condition Judgment Standard Applicable Model
IP5X No forced negative pressure, dust circulation for 8 hours, dust concentration 2~4kg/m³ Tiny dust ingress is permitted without affecting electrical and mechanical operation SC-015 Standard Version
IP6X 0~10kPa negative pressure inside sample, dust circulation for 8 hours, uniform dust mist maintained continuously No visible dust ingress inside enclosure, fully dust-tight SC-015 Standard Version
IP5KX Dust environment impacted by high-pressure airflow, no strong negative pressure Slight dust ingress will not affect operation under high-voltage conditions SC-015-56K Custom Version
IP6KX High-pressure dust impact together with synchronous negative pressure extraction to simulate road dust impact on vehicles No dust deposition inside under high-pressure dust environment SC-015-56K Custom Version

Standardized Procedure for IP6X Test Using LISUN SC-015 Equipment

•  Sample pretreatment: Record initial electrical and mechanical performance of samples, reserve vacuum extraction ports according to enclosure types and confirm intact sealing structure;
• Parameter setting: Input IP6X test program via touch screen, set test temperature, vacuum degree and total test duration from 0~999H (timing accuracy ±1s), and load standard dry talcum powder;
• Environment establishment: Activate heating, vibration and circulating dust blowing systems to realize uniform dust suspension inside sealed chamber and stabilize dust concentration to standard requirements;
•  Formal IP6X test: Turn on the vacuum unit to generate negative pressure inside samples. The circulating system continuously drives dust surrounding samples, and sample status can be monitored in real time via observation window;
• Result judgment: Stop the test and keep dust settling inside the chamber. Take out samples and clean outer surfaces, then disassemble enclosures to check internal dust accumulation. Re-test equipment performance. Samples without visible internal dust and with normal functions pass the IP6X test.

The whole procedure complies with Clause 13.4 of GB/T 4208-2017 and equipment structure specified in IEC 60529, and test data can be recognized by third-party certification laboratories.
