IS 16102 (Part 1): 2026 is the latest Indian standard specifying safety requirements for self‑ballasted LED lamps used for general lighting services. Compared with the previous 2012 edition, it expands the applicable scope to cover LED lamps with a maximum input power of 60 W (up from 30 W) and includes LED lamps with built‑in non‑detachable rechargeable batteries, making it suitable for more high‑power and rechargeable lighting products.
This updated standard introduces several critical new safety measures, including abnormal operation testing, IP protection testing, and photobiological safety assessment (requiring compliance with risk groups RG0 or RG1). It also strengthens requirements for mechanical strength of lamp caps, fault conditions, insulation, and product marking, aiming to better prevent risks such as fire, electric shock, overheating, and optical hazards, while aligning with international safety norms for LED lighting products.
