Socket Outlet Safety Probe – IEC 60884-1 Fig.9 & UL 498 Fig.12 is a dedicated tool for verifying whether socket outlets prevent access to hazardous live parts, compliant with global safety norms which fully meet Clause 10.2 of IEC 60884-1 Figure 9 and Clause 12.3 UL 498 Figure 12, Clause 10.2 of CSA C22.2. It features a precision-machined stainless steel rod (for navigating socket gaps) and a circular baffle plate (to stop over-insertion). Designed to apply a standard 20N pull force during testing, it ensures sockets meet “accessibility protection” requirements—critical for household and commercial use. The insulating handle adds user safety, while its durable construction withstands repeated testing, making it ideal for manufacturers, labs, and certification center.
Specifications:
• Probe Rod Dimensions Diameter: 3mm (±0.05mm tolerance); Length: 100mm (±0.2mm tolerance) – matches IEC 60884-1 Figure 9
• Baffle Plate Specifications Diameter: 25mm (±0.1mm); Thickness: 4mm – prevents over-insertion into sockets
• Applied Test Force: 20N (±1N tolerance) – standard for accessibility testing per IEC/UL/CSA norms
• Material Composition – Rod: 304 stainless steel (corrosion-resistant, wear-proof); – Handle: Flame-retardant ABS plastic (UL94 V-0 rating, insulating)
• Key Tolerances: Linear dimensions ≤25mm: ±0.1mm; >25mm: ±0.2mm; Force: ±1N – aligns with standard precision requirements
• Handle Design Length: 80mm; Diameter: 12mm – ergonomic grip for stable force application
Test Procedures:
• Inspect the probe for bent rods, cracked insulation, or baffle damage; confirm dimensions and force capacity meet specs.
• Power off the socket outlet under test and place it on a flat, stable surface.
• Align the probe rod with the socket’s slot/gap, inserting until the baffle plate touches the socket surface.
• Apply a steady 20N pull force to the probe, holding it for 5 seconds (simulating real-world contact).
• Check if the rod can reach hazardous live parts (via visual inspection or electrical continuity testing).
• Record results to verify compliance with applicable standards.
Applications:
• Safety testing of household socket outlets (e.g., wall receptacles, power strips) per IEC 60884-1 Figure 9.
• Compliance checks for commercial sockets (e.g., office, retail receptacles) to meet UL 498 Clause 12.3.
• Quality control for extension cord sockets during production (ensuring no access to live parts).
• Third-party certification testing (e.g., CE, UKCA, UL) for sockets entering global markets.
• Pre-shipment verification of industrial-grade low-voltage sockets (e.g., workshop receptacles) per CSA C22.2 No. 42.
